ClickUp social media manager walkthrough

Introduction to ClickUp

ClickUp is a powerful, all-in-one task management tool that has completely transformed my efficiency in my marketing business. As someone who works 1:1 with multiple clients daily, having a simple way to communicate, track tasks and deadlines, and complete my work is crucial.

In this post, you'll learn how to use ClickUp for social media management and how it helps you stay on top of your work as a social media manager.

Benefits of Using ClickUp as a Social Media Manager

Social media managers need a simple system to stay on top of content for all their clients. Here are some reasons why using ClickUp for social media management will change the game.

All-in-one Task Management Software

ClickUp is an all-in-one platform that manages every aspect of your business. Collaboration with clients? Check. Brainstorming launch plans? Check. Managing a content calendar? Check.

It easily connects with other tools via Zapier, but you may find you don't even need it with the in-house ClickUp templates, custom fields, and automations.

Works for Solopreneurs and Agencies

ClickUp is for EVERYONE, regardless of how many people are on your team. In my marketing business, I've used ClickUp for large, multi-six figure businesses as well as in my own business as a solopreneur.

ClickUp is so customizable that it can become exactly what you need, anything from a simple to-do list to a fully built out workspace with templates, SOPs, and automations.

Create Templates and Systems

Burnout is a common challenge for social media managers, because there are so many components of your work. Often, social media managers find they can only manage a few clients at a time. Creating efficient templates and systems help with this, and ClickUp makes that so easy.

When you start with a new client, you can create a folder template for their work that already has their onboarding tasks and a video to watch. You also can customize and create templates unique to each client, so you aren't reinventing the wheel every time.

Easy Collaboration with Clients

Prior to using ClickUp, the reviewal process with clients was a major hassle for me. I didn't want to give out my personal phone number, and emails back-and-forth were confusing for everyone.

Easy collaboration is one of my favorite benefits of using ClickUp as a social media manager, because you can ask for feedback and get content reviewed directly within the task. No more sharing various Google Drive files and emails!

ClickUp Features for Social Media Management

If you're brand new to ClickUp (psst it’s free, sign up here!), here are some ways I recommend using it for social media management specifically.

Organize Clients by Folder

Create a general client folder template, and customize it for each client you have. I like to add fun emojis based on my clients' businesses and of course further customize their folders depending on our work together.

Custom Statuses for Your Workflow

Consider all of the stages for each of your workflows. For example, I had to create a workflow for clients to review and approve content. For each stage, come up custom statuses to use.

Here's an example of statuses you may use for your video content process:

  1. Brainstorming

  2. Script Writing

  3. Filming

  4. Editing

  5. Caption Writing

  6. Scheduled

Custom Fields for Platforms or Projects

What sets ClickUp apart from other task management platforms is the fact that it's incredibly customizable. You can add tags and custom fields to tasks, making it easy to filter out what you're looking for and further make your workspace work for you.

Here are some ways to use custom fields. You can create custom fields to organize the platforms your client is marketing on. You can also add custom fields for specific projects (ex. content related to a freebie vs. a course vs. a mastermind) or goals (education, storytelling and nurturing, selling).

Templates to Save Time

Everything you create can be turned into a template in ClickUp, from tasks, to lists, to folders. Templates are easy to save and use later on, and this feature alone makes you work so much more efficiently.

Content Calendar for Each Client

Collaborating on a content calendar in ClickUp is hands down, my FAVORITE way to use the platform as a marketing strategist. This keeps everyone on the same page about what content is going up when, and it just makes collaborating with your clients so much easier.

You have the option to build your own content calendar template from scratch, or you can download the content calendar template I've used for years with all my clients here.

Collaborating with Clients Inside ClickUp

ClickUp streamlines all your client collaboration as a social media manager, and here are some of my favorite ways to keep communication strong in ClickUp.

Assign Tasks to Clients

Do you need a piece of content from your client? Or perhaps you need them to sign up for a new platform? Create a task and assign it to them with some context! You can also add due dates if it's urgent. This keeps things simple and eliminates the need to micromanage.

Use Comments and Attachments for Feedback

Within every task in ClickUp, there's an activity feed. This is where you can tag your clients and ask questions, request feedback, or give them some more context! You can also directly upload attachments to the task, so they can easily access your photos and videos files.

Plan Launches and Track Due Dates

When you're developing a launch strategy for social media and beyond, tracking due dates is critical. I love to create separate lists in ClickUp for launch management, and cross check it with my content calendars.
